"Believe the Gospel" 6
Peace to all brothers and sisters!
Today we continue to examine fellowship and share "Belief in the Gospel"
Let’s open the Bible to Mark 1:15, turn it over and read together:Said: "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent and believe the gospel!"
Lecture 6: The gospel enables us to put off the old man and its behaviors
[Colossians 3:3] For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. Verse 9 Do not lie to one another, for you have put off the old man and its deeds.
(1) Have put off the old man and his behaviors
Question: What does it mean that you are dead?Answer: "You" means that the old man has died, died with Christ, the body of sin has been destroyed, and he is no longer the slave of sin, because he who has died has been freed from sin. Reference Romans 6:6-7
Question: When did our “old man, sinful body” die?Answer: When Jesus was crucified, your old man of sin was already dead and extinct.
Question: I was not yet born when the Lord was crucified! You see, isn’t our “sinful body” still alive today?Answer: God’s gospel is preached to you! "The "purpose" of the gospel tells you that the old man has died, the body of sin has been destroyed, and you are no longer a slave to sin. It tells you to believe the gospel and use the method of believing in the Lord to believe. To unite and use (faith) in the likeness of death. Be united with Christ and be united with him in the likeness of his resurrection. Do you understand this? See Romans 6:5-7.
Question: When did we put off the old man?Answer: When you believe in Jesus, believe in the gospel, and understand the truth, Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again on the third day! You were resurrected with Christ. When you were reborn, you had already put off the old man. You believe that this gospel is the power of God to save you, and you are willing to be "baptized" into Christ and be united with Him in the likeness of His death; you will also be united with Him in the likeness of His resurrection. so,
"Being baptized" is an act that testifies that you have put off the old man and your old self. Do you understand clearly? Reference Romans 6:3-7
Question: What are the behaviors of the old man?Answer: The evil passions and desires of the old man.
The works of the flesh are obvious: adultery, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, factions, dissensions, heresies, and envy. , drunkenness, revelry, etc. I told you before and I tell you now that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. Galatians 5:19-21
(2) The reborn new man does not belong to the old man’s flesh
Question: How do we know that we are not of the old human flesh?Answer: If the Spirit of God dwells in you, you are no longer of the flesh but of the Spirit. If anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ. Romans 8:9
Note:
"The Spirit of God" is the Spirit of the Father, the Spirit of Jesus. Jesus asked the Holy Spirit sent by the Father to live in your hearts → you are born again:
1 Born of water and the Spirit - John 3:5-72 Born from the faith of the gospel - 1 Corinthians 4:15
3 Born of God - John 1:12-13
The regenerated new man no longer belongs to the old flesh, the dead body of sin, or the destroyed body; the new man born of God belongs to the Holy Spirit, to Christ, and to God the Father! It is holy and without Sinful, eternal life! Amen. Do you understand this?
(3) The new man gradually grows; the old man gradually destroys
Question: Where do the regenerated new ones grow up?Answer: The "regenerated new man" lives in Christ. The body has not yet appeared, and you cannot see it with the naked eye, because the regenerated "new man" is the spiritual body, the resurrected body of Christ. We are members of Christ and are together with Christ. Hidden in God and gradually growing; refer to Colossians 3:3-4, 1 Corinthians 15:44
As for the visible sinful body of the old man, it undergoes death and its outer body is gradually destroyed. The old man is the body of Adam. The flesh of the old man came from Adam. It was originally dust and will eventually return to dust. So, do you understand? Reference Genesis 3:19Refer to the following two verses:
Therefore, we do not lose heart. Although the outer body is being destroyed, the inner heart (that is, the Spirit of God dwelling in the heart) is being renewed day by day. 2 Corinthians 4:16
If you have listened to his word, received his teachings, and learned his truth, you must put off your old self in your former conduct, which is gradually getting worse through the deceitfulness of lust.Ephesians 4:21-22
Note: Brothers and sisters! The regenerated new man has put off the old man and the behaviors of the old man. It is difficult to understand here! If people who are enlightened by the Holy Spirit see and hear, they will naturally understand. We will explain it in detail when we share "Rebirth" in the future. It will be clearer and easier for people to understand.
Let us pray together: Dear Abba Heavenly Father, our Lord Jesus Christ, thank the Holy Spirit for constantly illuminating our spiritual eyes and opening our minds so that we can see and hear the servants you send to preach spiritual truth and enable us to understand the Bible. We understand that Christ was crucified and died for our sins and was buried, so that we have put off the old man and its behaviors; we have been reborn through Christ’s resurrection from the dead, and the Spirit of God lives in our hearts, and we experience The regenerated new man "lives in Christ, is gradually renewed and grows, and grows to be full of the stature of Christ; it also experiences the putting off of the outer body of the old man, which is gradually destroyed. The old man was dust when he came from Adam, and will return to dust.
In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ! Amen
